Vacation

We had no daycare last week so we decided instead of trying to find sitters why not take advantage and go on vacation ourselves?!  So our vacation started off at our friend’s cabin.  There were 8 adults, 7 kiddos (all 4 and under) and two cookin’.  Next year we will be outnumbered!  Yikes!  This year I’d have to say was one of the best.  Most of the kids were old enough to play with each other and still young enough for nap time (which is needed by adults to relax).  Last year at the cabin I was still pumping and Remy was only army crawling so he had a hard time getting around still.  And next year I’ll have an 8 month old!  Crazy talk.  Anyways, fun was had by all.  Well, except for Phil when his e-cig broke the night before we left and he was crabby to get home the next morning…

We took Monday off to relax at home and then on Tuesday we headed to WI Dells.  This was going to be our first time taking Remy to a hotel!  Seems weird because he’s almost 2 years old.  We got to our hotel early afternoon and got Remy in his swim trunks and brought him to the toddler water park at the hotel.  At first he was very timid about the whole thing.  He was interested but needed to be held when we went in the pool or wanted to hold our hand.  Took the kid a little bit to warm up to it but by the time we left he was having a blast in the water and loved it.  However, he hated everything that sprayed water.  He hates sprinklers so that makes sense.  He just stayed clear of getting sprayed by anything.  Which meant no big slides.  Oh well, maybe next time.  All that mattered is that he was having fun.  So besides a few trips to the toddler water park we went out to eat a few times, walked around a little and went on the WI Ducks boat tour.  There wasn’t really much time for anything else since Remy still needs an afternoon nap and goes to bed by 8:00 and we were only there for one full day.  But it was still nice to get away and for Remy to have new experiences.  We’ll definitely go back to the Dells when he’s older but will probably stay elsewhere next time.  Here's a bunch of pics from our Dells trip.  I was very impressed with how well Remy did.  Such a good boy when he's busy having fun!!

Time for the Potty Chair?

Lately Remy has been fascinated with the toilet.  Whenever he sees it he says “potty” and wants to open/close the lid, put toilet paper inside and flush.  He’s been watching Simon, who’s newly potty trained, go potty in the toilet the last few weeks at daycare which is making him want to see what the fuss is about (yay!).  Whenever he asks me if he can go potty we attempt it but he’s never peed in the “big” toilet.  I brought out his little toilet, which we are now going to keep in the living room while he gets into things, and he loved sitting on it and then getting back up and then sitting back down.  And guess what………. After getting on and off a thousand times he went potty in his potty chair!!!  Yay Remy!!!  Haha I think he was just as surprised as I was.  Of course I got super excited for him and got him a treat for going potty.  After that it was time for bed so the diaper went back on.  We tried it again the next night and he was doing the same thing.  He would sit down, run around a minute and sit back down.  This time he peed on the floor and he looked surprised at first and then thought it was pretty funny.  So I’m not sure that he understands when the urge to pee is coming.  Right now I’m not hard core pushing the potty.  I’m just going off his signs.  If he keeps showing this much interest I think we’ll spend an entire weekend bottomless and potty training.  By we I mean Remy of course.  :)

21 Months Old!

I meant to post this blog last week but I’ve been busy.  Better late than not at all!

Remy is 21 months old!  It’s amazing how much a toddler learns in just a few months.  Remy has gotten into copying everything daddy does.  Phil let Remy help him fix the lawn mower and ever since he’s been OBSESSED with tools and he knows how to use them.  The screw driver is his particular favorite.  Since he found a new love for tools we decided to set up his tool bench that I bought him while he was only a month old.  I figured he was old enough for it now anyways.  He loves it.  BUT he knows which ones are his toys and which ones are real tools and he obviously prefers the real thing.

Remy has also figured out how to open the baby gate.  We knew this day would come but I didn’t think it would happen this early.  Now we have to double latch it with a mom clip as well.  I don’t think it will be long until he figures that out as well.  We’ve been debating whether to just take the gate down but sometimes its nice keeping him confined to the living room so Phil and I can sit and relax and he can play with his toys and we don’t have to worry about what he’s doing in the kitchen and dining room.  Plus it keeps the dogs out of the living room which I have to say is the best part.  He’s also learned how to open a few of the doors in our house.  Time to break out the baby locks for those as well…

It’s finally summer here so he’s been wearing sandals, shorts and tees/tanks for the last two months or so.  There have been a few cold days and I’ve had to put pants on him and tennis shoes and I didn’t realize how much he’s grown in the last 2 months!  Most of his pants are now floods and his size 5 tennis shoes had to be squeezed on his feet.  Guess it’s time for new shoes and bigger pants!  I’d say he’s mostly in 24 month and some 2T and size 6 shoes now.  I’d say part of that is his height and part of that is his fluffy cloth diaper butt.  :)

Remy knows when it’s time to go outside and play he needs to put his hat and sunglasses on.  I don’t even have to ask him – he just grabs them and puts them on himself.  He also grabs his shoes and opens your hand and shoves them into your hand so we put them on him.  He’s kind of bossy!  The kid absolutely LOVES being outside.  He’d spend 100% of his time outside if he could.  He doesn’t especially enjoy sprinklers but I hope he gets used to them soon because it’s going to get even hotter out.  Phil and I are really hoping that since Remy loves the outdoors so much he will do great camping.  We are taking him camping up in Gordon, WI over the 4th of July.  Phil has family up there so we’re going to visit and have a little family vaca.  This will be his very first camping experience so I’ll let you know how it goes (I’m terrified)!

Remy is very chatty these days.  His current favorite words seem to be “hi”, “why”, “what’s that” and “no”.  Every time I ask him a question or make some sort of statement he feels the need to ask me why.  I don’t think he even cares what the answer is, just likes to ask why.  He’s putting more than one word together a lot more often.  He likes to say “let’s go”, “where’s momma/daddy”, “I like daddy”, “go away” (not my favorite), etc.!  And likes to tell the dogs to come, sit or stay (though the dogs don’t understand his gibberish).

Remy was in his first wedding this June.  My brother got married and he was the ring bearer.  I may be impartial but I think he was the CUTEST ring bearer on the planet!  He got to the end of the aisle and waived at everyone and said hi.  It was pretty darn cute.  Then he took off running and Phil ended up having to take him outside because everyone was staring at him instead of the bride and groom.  ;)

Remy is currently getting his 2 year molars.  Those puppies look huge and painful.  He’s been a crabby bear lately and gets a fever on and off.  These darn 2 year molars will be the death of me!  I hope we can all make it through this.

Likes/dislikes: Likes doing “adult” things (fixing things, brushing Winston’s hair, cleaning up spills, brushing his own teeth etc), likes being outside 24/7, likes his hat and shades on when outside, likes squirt guns and balloons, likes his vitamins and fruit snacks, likes rides on the lawn mower and likes to drive his Viper, dislikes being tied down, dislikes not getting his way (what kid doesn’t), dislikes when I annoy him (which is really fun).

Only a few more months and my little baby turns 2!  Time is going by too fast!

Remy's 18 Month Pics!

Here's Remy's 18 month pictures by the lovely Jess Arco Photography!  These were taken a few months ago but, late or not, I still must post the cuteness!  FYI - the kid is horrible in front of a camera.  He will not smile unless tricked into it and is usually a grump for most pictures.  He hasn't cooperated in front of the camera since he was 6 months old!
Oh well...  He is still pretty darn cute.  :)

Sandbox and guns!

Remy finally has his own sandbox!  Poor kid went from having almost zero outside toys to an awesome sandbox, a kiddo pool and a few toys.  Perhaps he'll have a swing set this summer?  Otherwise by next summer we'll get him and his baby brother/sister one.  I don't think he'd care much this year anyways.  I just told Phil I wanted a sandbox with a cover.  I showed him many different pictures and said I don't care how easy or difficult you make it as long as there's a cover.  Of course Phil can never do anything simple so he made the bench one I showed him.  Remy loves it and it should last through both kiddos just fine!  It still needs handles where you lift the cover but those seemed to get lost in the mix somehow.

Phil also brought Remy with him to Walmart yesterday and came home with 3 squirt guns.  Not just wimpy squirt guns either.  Haha.  Of course Remy picks the largest one.  He doesn't quite understand how to pump it and then shoot it so he just dunks the entire thing in his pool and runs after you with it.  It's pretty hilarious.   God I love this kid.  :)

We obviously need to do some landscaping in the backyard.... at least I pulled the weeds you see.  ;)
